Microsoft have announced that Windows 10 support will be ending in October 2025.
What does that mean?
If your computer hardware has been tested and supports Windows 11, you will have the option to update using the standards Windows Update process. Microsoft provide regular updates to address security issues, provide fixes for bugs that may cause your system to run slowly or even crash, and add support for new devices.
Hackers are constantly trying to find ways to compromise operating systems.
Should I be concerned?
The short answer is yes.
How vulnerable you are is dependent how you use your computer. The more you do on it, the more vulnerable you are.
Even if you do not use your computer for banking, bills, etc, you still don’t want unauthorised access to it as this can expose other devices on your network to risk.
Options
Stick with Windows 10. Pros: Familiar. Nothing to do. Cons: Security risks.
Force Windows 11 Upgrade Pros: Almost identical to Windows 10. Works well on most computers. Cons: Can crash on some hardware
Google OS Pros: Free. Easy to Use. MS Office equivalent available. Cons: Requires some learning.
Linux Mint Pros: Free. Fast. Easy to Use. MS Office equivalent available. Cons: Some learning required.
Can I upgrade anyway?
Check below to see if you can force an upgrade to Windows 11, although it is not 100% guaranteed to work.
To check out your system run the following:
· Press the Windows Key
· Type “system information”.
· Open

You need to note the highlighted values as per below:

If it already says Windows 11 at the top, you are good to go.
If it says Windows 10 then to be able to update:
1. It must say x64 and not x86.
2. It must be at least 1,000 Mhz.
3. It must have at least 2 Core(s).
4. It should have 8 GB or physical RAM. You can upgrade if only 4 GB but, in my experience, it will be very slow.
There are other factors that apply if you attempt to update via the usual channels. There are ways around these. Contact us if you have any questions.
